Uganda

This piece stands out for the concept it expresses: the voluptuous figure of a Ugandan woman moulded in clay. The beads give the piece its sexy va-va-voom, and it’s hard not to pay attention. One of Uganda’s leading ceramic artists, Sserunkuuma taught at the Margaret Trowell School of Industrial and Fine Arts for many years before retiring in 2024. He was awarded the UNESCO Crafts Prize for Africa, in ceramics, in 2000.
