This beautifully painted bowl has the viewer screaming for more – in the sense that one would love to see the intriguing abstract patterns on a wider canvas. But Sserunkuuma specializes in vessels, ceramic vessels, and in his hands the works acquire a significance that surpasses their physical presence. One of Uganda’s leading ceramic artists, Sserunkuuma taught at the Margaret Trowell School of Industrial and Fine Arts for many years before retiring in 2024. He was awarded the UNESCO Crafts Prize for Africa, in ceramics, in 2000.
