This sculpture was acquired from an exhibition at the Lusaka National Museum of the work of art students graduating from Evelyn Hone College, the school that has trained some of Zambia’s most important artists, in early 2026. There was a lot of work on display, paintings and sculptures alike, but “My Mother” was one of a kind in its evocation of the feminine beauty of mothers all over Africa. The sculptor, whose name was given as Prince Siangina, was doubtless inspired by the Venus of Willendorf.
