This uniquely beautiful canvas was acquired from a representative of the Congolese artist Taata Nshue, who may or may not be a graduate of the Academie des Beaux-Arts de Kinshasa. Taata Nshue is respected among dealers in the Congolese capital, which once was a cultural hub during the long rule of Mobutu Sese Seko. Moké and Chéri Samba, the well-known “daily life” artists, are from there. Taata Nshue’s stock is rising. His style is rich and beautiful, often merging representation and abstraction, and even his realist pictures are excellent.
