The mysterious Batubenga makes realist and semi-abstract pictures depicting totemic aspects of domestic life in Congo: a breastfeeding mother, a father fetching food, and so on. This picture appears to show the voluptuous figure of a woman in the act of washing. The hairstyle and the fleshiness are true to the facts of Congo, so to speak. The technique is wholly alien to East Africa: sand, in a range of colors, is glued to the surface of a canvas.
