Kyeyune, arguably Uganda’s greatest living painter, executed this canvas in 2011, when he was at the peak of his powers. If the title of the painting sounds funny, it’s because the story itself is quite amusing. The baby whose head is implanted in his mother’s bosom is also, in a sense, contributing to the family dispute by demanding to be fed, and who knows what the man has done to anger the wife who looks away in apparent disgust. Kyeyune is nothing if not brilliant in his ability to paint ordinary lives.
