This piece was acquired directly from Yiga. The work, like much of what he has produced, shows Yiga’s brilliance as a colorist. It also captures his ability to paint joy and wonder, perhaps the main reason to collect Yiga and why he is widely admired. He is one of three masterful printmakers at work in Uganda today. His personal story is just as compelling; he paid for his own education through high school and at Makerere University, where he attended the art school and was trained by the great John Bosco Kanuge. He was later apprenticed to Paul Ssendagire, whose work is also in the Roduza Collection.
