This piece was first exhibited by Afriart Gallery in a 2011 solo show by Kyeyune, arguably Uganda’s greatest living painter. Kyeyune was until recently an associate professor of art at Makerere University, where he mentored many students. Kyeyune describes the inner intrigue of this seemingly squalid but wonderful place. The red patch of underwear is probably the most delightful smear of color in the artist’s entire oeuvre, and that’s quite something.
