One of the highlights of Ocom’s solo show with Daudi Karungi’s Afriart Gallery in 2018, the piece depicts a rather famous blind man who was frequently seen playing his guitar in the streets of Kampala, doing it for well-wisher’s tips while a boy watched over him. The red halo around the man’s head contrasts sharply – and powerfully – with the composition’s overall dark theme. This collector once asked Ocom whether the halo should have been around the boy’s head instead, for all the reasons a viewer can imagine, and he conceded that it was an interesting idea. Still, Blind Saint is a true gem of contemporary Ugandan art, one of the pieces that mark Ocom as the outstanding artist of his generation.
