This conceptual painting is a kind of genesis piece for Sane, who in 2004 was still trying to discover his voice. Yet all of the magic for which we know Sane today is already apparent in this rare work. Sane later graduated from Makerere University with a master’s degree in sculpture, earned his doctorate from the University of Southampton, and taught in the Department of Art and Design at Uganda Christian University. Sane’s work, rarely exhibited these days after he took a break for health reasons, is widely sought by collectors.
