Family of Ducks

Edison Mugalu made his name in the 2000s as a wunderkind with a vivid expressionistic style. He was so in vogue that he literally had to put in extra hours to satisfy demand among collectors for his canvases. It seems at some point he got tired and retreated to his village in Kayunga, where his output has somewhat declined while his legend continues to grow. There is a whole legion of Mugalu imitators these days. Family of Ducks, executed in 2018, is sui generis, a unique piece in a vast oeuvre and one whose beauty shines from every angle. Mugalu, who learnt his craft by associating with formally trained artists, yet again shows his mastery of color and light.
