Hometown II

Jean-Marie Vianney Munezero is one of the bright stars at work in Kigali today, an artist who is destined to go places. His distinct imagery captures what he feels will soon be lost forever as Rwanda develops very quickly: the tin roofs that dot the hills across the country. The result is simply astonishing. Munezero, by the way, is a former herdsboy and domestic servant who never had any formal art training. He got his start by watching artists at the Ivuka Arts Center do their work; he joined them one day and has since distinguished himself.
