Naluu by Ocom Adonias

This is one of at least 15 pieces Ocom executed for his solo show with Daudi Karungi’s Afriart Gallery in 2018. That show posed the simple question: Who is your saint? Naluu, easily among the standout works of the exhibition, is the picture of a big-bummed woman who attracts attention while finding her way through a crowded market. Everything is in the details: look at the men behind the woman who seem to be leering, and one of them is smiling wickedly. The picture’s dark palette sets it apart from everything Ocom made for the Saint show, and, inexplicably, it remained unsold and was among Ocom’s favorites before this collector acquired it in 2023.
