The Pelican

Katumba executed this sculpture back in 2004 as part of a commission from the proprietors of the Garden City mall in Kampala. It was later deemed to be excess to the needs of the public project, and the sculptor kept it at his home in Bunga. This collector acquired the piece directly from Katumba after he retouched it in 2026. A thing of beauty and wonder, the piece is the third Katumba in the Roduza Collection. Katumba is one of the great sculptors of Uganda, comfortable with both wood and metal. He has been acknowledged as a master since 1991, when his work was exhibited in a show at the Uganda Museum by a small group of prominent artists.
