Pumpkin

The pumpkin is a recurring motif in global art, but this beautiful work is distinctly Sserunkuuma’s. The minimalist ceramic piece, despite its lack of embellishment, shines no matter which angle one looks at it from, and it’s a fine example of the artist’s technical prowess. One of Uganda’s leading ceramic artists, Sserunkuuma taught at the Margaret Trowell School of Industrial and Fine Arts for many years before retiring in 2024. He was awarded the UNESCO Crafts Prize for Africa, in ceramics, in 2000.
