Ronex’s poignant vision of a vendor at his crowded stall evokes the seller’s solitude. The artist places the figure among bananas, oranges and other fruits, creating a universe at once colorful and intoxicating. The painting, one of three by Ronex now in this collection, hangs in the collector’s office at the Weganda Gallery in Kampala. Ronex, an artist’s artist, is among Uganda’s greatest living painters, and his pictorial style is elastic. This picture was executed in the semi-abstract style of which Ronex has made a small number of museum-quality pieces.
