This piece was picked up in a bazaar in Abuja, the Nigerian capital, in 2019. The collector was thinking of the legendary materfamilias in Nollywood flicks who hold court in their grand estates and preside over grand intrigue all the while fanning themselves, desperate for air. Similar pieces can be picked up in a market in western Africa for a small sum, but this one seemed unique in the way it was crafted. Color is everything.
